Is Miley Cyrus’ latest leaked video – this one of her smoking salvia with a bong – a cry for help or normal teen acting out?
There’s a lot of speculation about former Disney star Miley Cyrus after a video surfaced showing the teen queen using a bong just days after her 18th birthday. The video, reportedly shot by a female friend, surfaced on TMZ and pictured the Hannah Montana actress/singer smoking the natural herb, salvia, not marijuana as some suspected.
Miley Smokes Hallucinogen
While salvia is legal in California, it is known to have hallucinogenic effects, as is evidenced in the video when Cyrus tells the camera, “I’m having a little bit of a bad trip,” and then erupts into a fit of giggles. Cyrus can also be heard saying, “I want more of that s—” and rambling incomprehensibly.
Miley didn’t immediately comment on the leaked video, but her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, immediately took to Twitter. “Sorry guys. I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself,” he tweeted. “I’m so sad,” he continued, adding, “There is much beyond my control right now.”
Miley’s parents announced in October that they were divorcing after 17 years of marriage, and some commentators surmise that may be the root of the teen’s acting out.
Others aren’t quite so appalled by Miley’s “wild child” behavior, though. “Ever since video of her smoking salvia made it onto the Internet, Miley Cyrus has become the new celebrity bong babe,” FOX Pop Tarts gushes, adding, “the ‘Party in the USA’ party girl is responsible for a dramatic increase in sales of the hallucinogenic herb.”
Hollywood.com’s box office analyst doesn’t believe Miley’s career will suffer from her antics, but instead may falter from her break from the Disney brand. Meanwhile, the New York Daily News reports that the bigger problem would be if no one was talking about Cyrus at all.
On the Road to Addiction?
What no one seems to be talking about in the wake of this experimentation with salvia is the danger of addiction. Is Miley simply acting out or is she on a dangerous path that could lead to substance abuse? If it’s the latter, we hope she gets help sooner rather than later.
